Missed Bites
We've all missed bites. We’ve all had that question, “What if it was a big one? What if it was a 10 pounder?” You’ve felt that tick in your line and swung into nothingness. Where did that fish go? How big was it? It happens. It’s going to happen again. Now in all likelihood, that was probably a 2 or 3 pounder. Generally speaking, a massive bass is going to suck the bait in and you’ll hardly feel it. You’re going to go to move your bait, and there is this dead weight on the en

Expectations
We all wish we could go out and catch fish every time. It would be great to be able to just go out and find the perfect pattern every time you are on the water. But that’s just not how it works. There will be days when nothing is working and you need to be prepared for that. The quicker you can figure out that a pattern isn’t working and be able to adapt from that, the better off you will be. Sure, there will be days when you just pull up to your first spot and the fish are e

Getting Started Tournament Fishing
Tournament fishing has grown massively in the past ten or so years. There are lots of different trails and they chase lots of different species. No matter what, there is probably a trail that fits your style. Now let’s say that you want to get started in competitive fishing tournaments. Start off by searching for clubs and tournament trails in your general area. Some trails have people fishing as partners and weighing in fish as a team, while other trails have people fishing

By a Fisherman, For a Fisherman...
One day I was studying the Delaware for some spots to drop the kayak and do a float trip. I posted up for some spots and a gentleman by the name of Paul (another fishing fiend) was kind enough to send me some pins to check out. After taking a couple trips and some more back and forth on Facebook with pics and trips. I come to find out there are a few more of Paul’s family members that are also fishing fiends. I come to find out that Paul’s dad Tim makes custom rods for close

Epic Topwater Session...
We started the day out fishing deep cause it was kinda hot. We were fishing a 15-20 feet steep drop off. Couldn’t get bit on the tube or the spinnerbait so we started to cruise towards the shallower water. As we got close to the shore we fished a grass line that started at the bank and came out about 10’ or so and that was about 12’ of water. I been doing really well on top water the past few weeks but nothing like today! I been searching for this blank for a while but could

2020 Season Off to a great start!
2020 has been great for me so far! We got a couple hundred bass in the boat so far. Some of my biggest coming on the 1.5" square bill with my sunfish pattern. Not to mention the 100 a day perch trips back in February and March. The pre spawn chomp started about the second week in March for me with netting my biggest so far at 4.7lbs. I am blessed to be able to say that most of my fishing takes place with my Dad and my Daughter Sophie. The best fishing crew a guy could ask for

Custom Fish Replica..Tobin Lake Taxidermy
If you are looking to have your PB mounted you should check out Christian Hache of Tobin Lake Taxidermy. He does great work and is an avid member of the get hooked group. He has amazing skills and does exceptional work. He is from Saskatchewan but grew up on the east coast of Canada in a French community called Acadian Peninsula close to the sea and forest where he spent most of his time fishing. He has always liked doing art and discovered this passion about 4 years ago. He

Milligan’s Custom Lures
I purchased some custom made jigs from Milligan’s and wanted to let everyone know how great they are. After placing my order I had pics of the finished product that evening. I wanted to write something up to share and this is what Milligan’s told me. We are just a small family ran business. Just me and my dad. He taught me to fish. That passion turned to an obsession! I was probably 15 when we bought a shaky head mold. It's be crazy ever since. I have the majority of the bait

A new season, means some new lures…
Like all bass lure anglers, the winter and the early spring is when I turn my attention to the coming season with a view to replacing split rings, hooks and purchasing some new shiny lures and odd smelling pieces of soft plastic! And alongside replenishing, and in some cases replacing my personal armoury. A lure I always have tied on is a jig so I’ll be at my local tackle shop and see a jig a get it. Another is the Heddon Super Spook JR they aren’t going to set any casting re

Top three winter lures for bass
Winter time fishing for largemouth bass can be one of the most frustrating yet rewarding experiences an angler can have. It’s a period of time most fishermen store away their gear until spring. While there are hardcore fishing enthusiasts who ice fish throughout the colder months; for those who prefer and have the benefit of open water during this season, here are my top three baits for winter bass. The first one is a jerkbait. Using a jerk, jerk, pause motion with a slow act

Pike fishing Michigan
Northern pike are known as a predatory fish, this is a fish that has an attitude, no fear, and a big reputation of being an all around aggressive fish! I start my season with stick baits (floating or suspending) in that 7 to 8-inch size that look like a perch or baby pike. Large males and females coming off spawn are very territorial towards each other and an innocent 8-inch baby pike is an easy meal that hardly ever gets turned down. I want these stick baits to barely move

Honey Holes....
Everyone has them. We swear no one knows about them. But to us it is a sanctuary we can call our own just for the time we get to spend there when there is no other fishermen around. It’s a time to hone in on our skills and correct some mistakes without any interruption. These spots are sacred to us and we want to believe no one else knows it’s here. Maybe! But chances are they have been discovered at some point by some angler on a mission. I hit one of my honey holes today to

Picking Plastic Colors
I typically use some sort of plastic lure almost every time I fish. Whether it be on as a trailer, drop shot, wacky rig, ned rig, Texas rig, Carolina rig, or more; you should always make sure to have the correct color. Typically, if the water is stained or muddy, you’re going to want to represent a silhouette in the water. This can be done by using a dark black/blue, dark purple, black, etc. Now, if the water is clear, you‘re going to want to use a more natural color. For exa

How to improve on the off season
There’s not much we can do about it. The fishing off-season means the bite has slowed to a screeching stop And for many northerns, the only option you have right now is to sit over a hole in the ice. But there are several other ways to better yourself as an angler while off the water so that you’re more successful on the water next season. Here are 3 way that you can improve. 1.) There are a lot of tutorial videos on YouTube watching YouTube videos are a very good way to impr

Fishing Lines
The 3 most common types of fishing lines are monofilament, fluorocarbon, and braid. There are a few different ones like “co-polymer” for example, but we aren’t talking about those. First, you want to establish what pound test you are going to need, I usually use 8-12 lb flouro if I’m going to run it as my mainline for bass; however, if it is being used as a leader,I use typically 12-15. I use the same pound test for Monofilament. Now, onto braid. I love using braid. It may so

Is tournament fishing a sport?
I was recently talking to a friend that doesn’t avidly fish and the topic of tournament fishing came up. He was shocked when I told him that we could actually compete for money while fishing. I asked him what he thought of when he heard the word fishing and he delivers the same response I’ve gotten several times throughout the years, “Well you get your cooler with the drinks and snacks, you put a worm on the hook and then you just have to sit there and wait.” Lets get this st

Spring time is white bass time.
All across the country the spring white bass run is on. It starts south and moves its way north as soon as area water temps starts to rise. And when the run is in full swing there is a simple way to get into a mess. Over the years I have used this method successfully from Arkansas to South Texas, especially in water I have never been on in my life. With the internet you can often read when the bite is on in your area. And if there is a bridge access on a river you will se

Key Fishing Snacks for a Day of Fishing
Some people think of this topic just as a sandwich with chips, and maybe a cold pop or beer(depending on age). However, I personally pack those types of food too. But it’s always good to have snacks that don’t easily expire, spill, rot, melt, or are time consuming to eat; that you could just leave in your boat or fishing pack 24/7. It’s also important to have healthy snacks that offer dietary values. These snacks include, but are NOT limited to Beef Jerky, Clif bars, chewy g

Big Fish, Small Baits
Throughout almost all of my fishing career, I have always leaned toward smaller baits over larger baits. The logic was simple, any fish will eat a small bait, but a small fish may not eat a large bait. This seems simple but there are a lot of factors that I have learned and put into my arsenal over the years. The average fisherman goes through similar stages throughout their career. 1) Catch a fish 2) Consistently catch fish 3) Catch a large fish 4) Catch a limit of fish 5

Using Google Maps to catch bass...
If you are like me then you most likely you have a few rods and some gear in your vehicle at all times. On Sunday my daughters had a horseback lesson at a college. Since it was a good hike from home I decided I was going to wait for them to finish the tour and lesson of the equestrian center. As I was sitting there I pulled up Google maps and decided to see what was around. I knew there had to be some type of pond or creek near by. Low and behold one shows up about 5 minutes
